FAQ
Below are answers to questions we commonly receive.
  • Question
Is numeric data for the total traffic of the IX available?
    Answer
We do not offer numeric data for total traffic. Please use the graphs available on this website.
  • Question
Do the maximum scale values on the total traffic graphs indicate the limit of JPIX’s traffic exchange capacity?
    Answer
No. The maximum scale values are changed as necessary to make the graphs easy to read. JPIX responds to increases in traffic by upgrading its equipment as necessary to prevent bottlenecks that will affect traffic exchange.
  • Question
Is it possible to apply for the in-house cable service at all of your sites?
    Answer
This service is only available at our Otemachi site (KDDI Otemachi Building)
  • Question
Even though we do not currently have a router at one of your sites, is there a way we can connect to a JPIX site?
    Answer
We offer the JPIX Plus Service, in which a leased circuit operated by KDDI is run to your premises, and used together with KDDI’s transit service. Depending on the site, a connection can also be made using a leased circuit from another network carrier.
  • Question
When we run traceroute/tracert/UOTrace to find out why we are having issues with our connection to a server that we are using, the round trip time increases at asXXXX.ix.jpix.ad.jp. Can’t you do something about this?
    Answer
JPIX only provides a peering environment for Internet service providers (ISPs). If asXXXX.ix.jpix.ad.jp is connected directly to JPIX, it is possible that the cause for this lies with us. We will investigate possible causes, such as congestion, errors, faults, or maintenance, and get back to you. If asXXXX.ix.jpix.ad.jp is not connected directly to JPIX, we recommend that you inquire with the administrator of asXXXX.ix.jpix.ad.jp, or contact its operator through the ISP you are contracted with.
  • Question
When we do a traceroute/tracert/UOTrace on a host that keeps sending spam, asXXXX.ix.jpix.ad.jp appears on the route to the host. Would you please stop sending us spam?
    Answer
While JPIX provides a peering environment for Internet service providers (ISPs), we do not perform any filtering of the packets transmitted between our customers. If you are experiencing attacks, please contact the operator of the server that is making the attacks, or consider implementing an attack defense system.
  • Question
After our firewall software reported an attack, we did a traceroute/tracert/UOTrace on the attacker, and asXXXX.ix.jpix.ad.jp appeared on the route to the attacker. Please stop attacking us.
