Chief TPIX joins hands with JPIX, the very first commercial Internet Exchange in Japan
Chief Telecom proudly announced today that its Taipei Internet Exchange (TPIX) has officially
built a strategic partnership with Japan Internet Xing (JPIX), established as the first commercial
Internet Exchange in Japan in 1997. This partnership aims to facilitate the internet traffic
exchange between members of TPIX and JPIX, providing businesses with complete network
solutions and further strengthening Taiwan’s role in global internet connectivity.
JPIX is the very first commercial Internet Exchange in Japan and always ranked top 50 largest
global IXPs; TPIX is Taiwan’s largest Internet Exchange center, ranked 96 th in the world. By
leveraging the collaboration with JPIX, TPIX is able to extend its comprehensive network
capabilities to corporate customers seeking network resources in Japan, and JPIX will also
promote Chief’s network services to its over 280+ members. Both of TPIX and JPIX will
experience benefits as a result of the collaborative partnership where one plus one more than
two.
Mr. Joseph Wu, Chairman of Chief Telecom, indicated that, this strategic partnership falls
within the scope of Chief Telecom’s International Ring – one of THREE RINGS and THREE LINES
network infrastructure. In addition to JPIX, Chief will continue to expand internet backbones in
Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Philippines, and work in close collaboration with local telecom
operators and Internet Exchange centers.
At present, coupled with the Grand ASEAN-10 Alliance program, Chief Telecom is able to
provide corporate customers with IDC services, internet access services, cloud-based application
solutions and more than 10 international submarine cables systems. The global internet
backbones currently have scaled to over 1000G. In the future, Chief will continue strengthening
cooperation with East Asian partners to provide local telecommunication services. Furthermore,
to accelerate the expansion of global market, Chief proactively extends its global reach with
network-enhancing connectivity services. It is a crucial step to enable Chief to march actively
toward the goal of becoming the digital convergence of East Asia and the center of AI cloud
business applications.
Mr. Joseph Wu further mentioned that, Chief’s TPIX is designated as a National Level-2 Critical
Infrastructure in Taiwan. Driven by high growth in the number of peering members and
cooperative global IXPs, the volume of internet traffic at TPIX will come with a large-scale
increase; at the same time, the enhancement in Taiwan’s global connectivity is conducive to the
expansion of the exchange capability in global economy, culture and academic fields. In the era
of knowledge economy, it not only plays a significant role in Taiwan’s economic development but
also solidifies Taiwan’s key position in the global network.

JPIX has started IX service in 1997 as Japan’s first commercial Internet exchange (IX) service that
provides a reliable network traffic exchange platform to different players such as ISPs, CATV
operators, NSPs, content providers, CDNs, cloud providers, media providers. JPIX is one of the largest
